The range of Nevado de Cachi has many options that go from altitude trekking, to summits as high up as 6380mts, Libertador San Martin.
With it´s nine summits Nevado de Cachi is the most important range in Salta. The first sportive ascent was done in the year 1950 by the norwegian doctor Arne Hoygaard, the italian preist Fray Oliverio Pelicelli, and the 1rst Liutenant Pedro Di Pasquo. Though the first attempt to conquer the Nevado was made by the german explorer Federico Reichert in 1904.
As many of the Andes mountains in the north of Argentina, Nevado de Cachi posses an incredible amount of acheological findings, starting at it´s feet with Las Pailas ruins, on it´s slopes and even on some of it´s summits.
For more information you can read the book from Christian Vitry, "El Nevado de Cachi", thought it is only available in spanish at the moment.
