Mount Pissis Normal Route (10 days)

Phisical Level: Medium / High.
Technical Level: Medium.

Dates:

6th of February, Vacants Limited..


Includes:
- Transport from Fiambala and back.
- All Meals while on the expedition, until back in Fiambala.
- Mountain Tents.
- Local Guides with experience.
- Emergency Oxigen.
- VHF radios.


ITINERAry

Day 1 - We meet p in Fiambalá, Catamarca, where we coordinate everything for the following days and get to know the rest of the expedition members.
Aprox height: 1200mts

Day 2 - We head off to the small town of Las Grutas where We arribe after aprox. 4hs on the vehicule. This is to be our chosen place for acclimatization on the next three nights.The sorrounding area is rich in historic and archeological findings.

Day 3 - Acclimatization trekking towards the Falso Morocho volcano. This is a very nice trek that will help us to acclimate better to the heights. We are going to have one of the best views of Incahuasi volcano while on this trek and farther on the horizon Pissis. Once back we will be able to have a hotsprings bath at las Grutas.

Day 4 - Acclimatization trekking towards Beltrán Volcano. We get closer to it by 4wd vehicules and ascend by the east hillside of the volcano. Once on top we will be able to admire its crater.

Aprox Height: 5250mts

Day 5 - Already more acclimatice we head towards the Pissis base camp, from here we will already see the colossal size of it. The second highest volcano on earth and the third highest summit in the Andes. On our way with the 4wd We will pass by saltflats and lakes of great beauty, such as Laguna Celeste.

Aprox Height: 4600mts

Day 6 - We spend this day doing small walks around the campsite for a better acclimatization. On the sorroundings there are fields of white penitents with their fantastic shapes for us to enjoy.

Day 7 -  Our ascent finnally takes place, and we walk towards camp one. All of the ascent is done over loosen pebbles. we won´t be using crampons yet, since there is no ice. We camp next to the Argentine glacier.

Aprox Height: 5400mts

Day 8 - We keep on climbing up, this time towards camp two, bordering the glacier We make our ascent, already using crampons. The steepness of the hill goes increasing.
Aprox. 6hs.
Aprox Height: 5800mts

Day 9 - Early in the morning we start towards our gold, the Pissis summit, reaching 6792mts. After aprox. 8hs we reach it. From its summit We will be able to see the highest volcanos on earth, Ojos del Salalado, Walter Penk, Tres Cruces, Bonete and Nacimiento, among others.
We come down to the first campsite.
Aprox. 8hs ascent 5hs descent.
Aprox Height: 6792mts

Day 10 - We get to base camp and after organicing everything, we turn back towards Fiambalá where our adventure ends.
Aprox. 2hs descent, 4hs to Fiambalá.
