Tilcara - Calilegua gets together two unique places, one part of the world heritage, Humahuaca gorge, and the other one a national park with an incredible bio-diversity.
We will have the chance to explore ancient inca trail that begin in the dryest part of the Andes range, to end at the very humid wet forest of Calilegua Nationa Park.
A stunning trek that cover a variety of geography in the Andes.
ITINERARy
Day 1 - From Salta we head towards the Humahuaca gorge, after a few hours we will reach Tilcara where we will spend the night, these will give you enough time to walk around town and visit the fortress of Pucará de Tilcara.

Day 2 - From Tilcara we take the road that goes to Alfarcito, on our way we will pass by the beautifull devils gorge (garganta del diablo), the vehicules will leave us at the begining of our trail, from here on we will have spledid views of the Humahuaca gorge, colors and formations.
Our trail will take us into the high Andes slowly, we camp after having crossed the highest pass of the all trip, Abra de La Cruz,4180mts, next to a beautiful ancient settlement.

Day 3 - Having our rucksacks ready. We begin our descent until we reach the seattlement of Huaira Huasi where we stock up with fresh water and keep on going to reach the mountains ridge, once on it we have lunch.
All through this day we will be able to appreciate the change of colors on the mountains due to the humid oriental winds trapped by the ranges.
A couple of hours after lunch we arrive to Los Cuarteles, where we set our campsite, next to the small settlement of El Molulo.

Day 4 - After breakfast, once again we follow the ridge line, until we reach Abra del Potrero, here we have our lunch before we go on towards Peñon Colorado, surrounded by beautiful alnus trees. a steep uphill through a hairpinned trail takes us to the top of Peña Colorada, from here on is all downhill until we reach the small town of San Lucas..

Day 5 - Having rested in San Lucas, we follow the homonymus river and on the way we will be stunned by the incredible rock formations and its waterfalls. After having crossed San Lucas river our ascent to San Francisco town begins where our transfer awaits for us to take us back to Salta.
